Journal Entry 8:
1.) In your journal, draw a table and fill in three or more of your own desired outcomes for this course/semester. Next to each, explain why you value having that experience.
1. Outcome- Get an A in both my computer classes.
Value- I know I want to do something with computers in my future. Therefore, these classes are important if I want to pursue a career in that field.
2. Outcome- Write more essays.
Value- Writing isn't something I like doing, but, I know I need it to do well in my English classes.
3. Outcome- Manage time more wisely. Procrastinate less.
Value- I often get stressed with all my work, especially when I wait until late at night to do it. Procrastinating less and managing my time will lower my stress level.
2.) In your journal, make a table and fill in three or more of your desired experiences for this course/semester. Next to each, explain why you value having that experience.
1. Desired Experience- Be interested in going to class.
Value- If I take classes I like at times that aren't too early, I will most likely enjoy them more.
2. Desired Experience- Academic confidence.
Value- In my past I usually do well but not always the best. I'd like to make deans list and prove to myself I can do better than I have in the past.
3. Desired Experience- More participation.
Value- In some classes I don't always participate. If I did this more, I think I would gain a better understanding of what the teacher is teaching.
3.) Using the formula of V*E=M, write about your level of motivation to be successful in college.
The value I place on being a success in college is 7, and my expectation of being a success in college is 9. Multiplies together, this gives me an achievement motivation score of 63. I think if I manage my time more wisely and get assignments done sooner than later, I will do better in class and in turn become more motivated. Along with getting work done, if I put more effort in during class I think this will also raise my success level at college.
